First of all, Happy Father’s Day to all UK Fathers. I know it’s just corporate BS – just be grateful and respectful to your Dad on a regular basis and the job’s done.
It was T20 Blast day again at Edgbaston with the Bears taking on the Yorkshire Vikings. The Vikings are generally a tough team and travel well and, with the Bears failing to take the initiative against the Foxes, we had a lot to play for.
Yorkshire batted first and very quickly it became clear that they hadn’t brought their A game. They managed to go from an extremely dismal 36 for 4 to a low but worthy 132 for 7 after 20 overs – managing only 8 fours in the entire innings! Recordo Gordon made up for Friday night’s bowling by taking a solid 30 for 3 wickets.
Birmingham came to bat and suffered a couple of early losses with England favourite Ian Bell managing a pathetic 5 from 4 balls before being dismissed by Maxwell followed swiftly by Chopra going for 3. From there the batting remained steady with Porterfield and Ambrose bringing in a stream of runs.
The last couple of overs displayed the kind of action a T20 audience comes to see with Laurie Evans managing a big 6 and a brace of 4’s to take them over the finishing line.
Birmingham Bears won by 6 wickets.
