This may be my last entry…

Mixed emotions for me this evening.

The rain held off and Birmingham Bears were able to play their T20 Blast quarter final versus Essex Eagles in Edgbaston. The Eagles won the toss and decided to bowl. This was a costly mistake with Birmingham taking 180 for 5 featuring a thrilling half century from Laurie Evans and a 48 not out from Chris Woakes.

189 for 5 was always going to be a defensible score and Essex, despite a decent turn from Westley and the Essex talisman Bopara (who I very nearly literally bumped into before the match) scoring 33 and 32 respectively, the tally proved just too high to reach.

The final result was a 24 run lead by Birmingham which puts them safely into the semis.

Why the mixed emotions? Well, I can’t afford to go to the finals day in Edgbaston so I’ll be watching the finals at Modulor Dave’s house. Full match report(s) will follow but I intend to be ridiculously drunk on that day so don’t expect any sense.

Thanks for reading, now, for the last time after a live T20 Blast match report, #YouBears!
