Farm Fest is coming up fast to meet me. The travel is now sorted and the plans for the previous night have been drawn. Now my mind is turning to the music, what to expect and what I will need to take.

Obviously, I’ll be taking my usual essentials┬ábut now I have a couple more essentials – a kilt, my new honcho and a rather snazzy last-minute-purchase poncho from the Download Festival (it got really cold on the last day and I had just enough cash to buy myself something warm). It’s going to be a matter of travelling pretty light given the number of changes we need to make to catch all our connecting coaches/trains. Read More

1. If you build it, they might not actually come after all
This weekend saw the inaugural (although probably last) Kings Norton Canal Festival. It was not well advertised and therefore not well attended but it had a certain charm to it. It was a little too small for a festival, I think ‘fayre’ would be more appropriate, and only had one stage for music. The clue is in the name though, music played second fiddle to the real star of the show – the Kings Norton canal junction.

There were a good number of canal boats and several of them were selling things – one even acted as a makeshift garden centre.

For me the highlight of the festivities was a bat walk on the Friday night. I will admit to being a bit gin-drunk but Mrs CthuIu, Modulor Dave, Mrs Grotts and I all went along and had a splendid time. Read More

I’m in recovery from a day of fun, frolics, sun and alcoholics at CoCoMAD – the local festival. It’s a one day affair that happens pretty much on our back doorstep and never fails to entertain. Read More

Today has been hard. I wanted a nice quiet day before returning to work and, for the most part, that is what I got but I have been aching all day. I always forget this bit. I’d spent the previous six days walking and walking and dancing and walking and schlepping rucksacks from pillar to post and walking, but I hadn’t thought that it was actually the most ongoing exercise I had done in a long time. There are parts of me aching that I didn’t think could ache but that’s got to be a good thing, right? Read More

Overall it’s been a pretty good day. My stomach is feeling a bit more robust thanks to the meds, the sun was out (after a brief and rather pathetic shower) and I had bacon for breakfast – marvellous! Read More

Just over twelve years ago I started writing my first blog. I remember discussing my impending mid-life crisis (as I turned 30) and how I was looking forward to the newly created Download Festival. Here I am twelve years later enjoying a mid-life crisis and looking forward to the positively-part-of-the-furniture thirteenth Download Festival. Read More
